Key Words: Writing Ability, Narrative Text and Mind Mapping
Writing as
one of the four skills, has given an important contribution to human work. The
important of writing can be seen in people’s daily activities and social
lifeLanguage conveys the messages among people to communicate and interact. But, the students
sometimes need too much time only for thinking what they are going to write.
The writer thinks that it is not effective enough, so they need a technique. The writer uses mind mapping. It is a new technique in teaching
English.Hopefully by using this technique of teaching, the students can more interest and morediligentinlearningtowrite narrative text.
The purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a significant difference of the ability of writing narrative text of the
eleventh grade students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in academic year 2013/2014 taught
by using mind mapping.
This is an experimental
research. The
writer uses one group. The population used is the students of the Eleventh Grade Students of SMA 1 Jekulo Kudus in
academic year 2013/2014.While
the sample is class XI IS 5. The number of the subject is 30.There are six meetings during the research. Before the
students have treatments, they have pre test first. After that is treathment. In the end of the treatment, the researcher gives post test to the
student and compares the result with pre test result.
The result of the experiment shows that the mean of pre test is 53.16 by standard deviation 9.04 and the mean of post
test is 75.6 by standard deviation 12.98. It was found
t-observation 8.58 in the level significance 5% from the degree of freedom (df) N-1 (30-1 = 29), and t-table (tt)
2.04. In
other word t-observation is higher than t-table (to>tt).
Therefore, it can be said that
the null hypothesis is rejected, while the hypothesis of the research is
confirmed.
Based on the result of the research above, the writer suggests that
teachers should use an interesting technique in teaching and learning process. It is to make students practice their ability of writing from simple to
the complex one, without feel affraid to make mistake.
